Though “branding” seems like a new concept, it’s been around for years.
From the days when farmers put actual metal marks into cattle to high schoolers acquiring copyrights, branding continues to evolve but it’s here to stay. It’s funny how we approach brands all the time and don’t think about the engineering behind those brands. To that I say that the best brands are like the best technology: You don’t have to think about it. It just works.
One of the best lessons of the importance of branding and what it does for a product can be incidentally found in the movie “American Gangster.” Though the product in question is illicit drugs, Denzel Washington’s character of “Frank Lucas” has the right idea of what his brand of drugs (called “Blue Magic” in the film) means to him. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
What does that mean to you? In this day and age, your reputation when it comes to your creations is your brand, no chintzy logo required. Your standard of quality is pure and wholly unique to you, and don’t let anyone change that.
Happy creating.
